It's August.
When did *that* happen? I've had quite the whirlwind of a week--a small trip up to Victoria BC, last minute prep for the art show, work, and then the art show itself over the weekend. I have no idea what day it is.
And the shop update went swimmingly! Thank you for all the sweet words and support, dearies! The brooches are a big hit--there's only a couple left now.
So...how was the show, you ask? It was...exhausting. But in a good way! The Seattle show I participated in last winter was more profitable, but that's to be expected since this one was out in the country and a little more off the beaten path (I mean, it was on a farm. That's as far from the path as you can get). It was great getting to meet other artists (all my neighbors there were so cool and really made me feel relaxed and well-loved) and mingle with folks. My art has a tendancy to immediately bond with people that are just a hair off-kilter and I absolutely adore that. Getting to chat with folks in-person and see their reactions is always so thrilling and fun!
Anywho, it was mostly prints that sold and stole the show (which was fairly predictable) and so that means...lots and lots of originals will be going into the Etsy shop. Framed ACEOs, large pieces, small pieces...you name it. I just need to photograph everything, which may take me a couple days (I've decided to take a few days off and just do some things for myself--quilting, reading, watching movies, and chilling out--before I get back to work).
Without further adieu, I have pictures of my tent setup for you to see! I know you guys couldn't make it, but I thought I'd give you a wee personal tour of my small space.
Overview shot--the banner was very last minute (like, night-before-last-minute) and held up surprisingly well.
Poster bin! I designed and printed my own posters for the show just for fun. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. I printed them on 11x17" paper and hung them around town before the gig (a couple were even stolen off walls! Cool beans!) and then the left-overs were sold for a few bucks at the show.
The largest painting I had chilled on the easel in the front as an attention grabber. It worked really well.
Grid walls with framed prints. You can find these walls at Home Depot for $8 a piece--quite a bargain. They worked really well (had a hard time keeping pieces hung straight from the wind, but nothing fell down, so that's cool).
Painting display. The price tags on everything are little white gift tags with red/white striped twine. Mini clothespins held them in place.
Print and table display. That gorgeous red tablecloth was made by my good friend and fellow creative pal, Nadja, who deserves a *huge* shout-out for helping me with this show. That gal is bloody amazing. Truly.
The table holds my postcard pack stand, business cards, rings, a couple small framed ACEOs, and the Fresno catalogue with a brief bio about me and my work.
I was pretty proud of this idea for displaying print samples. It's wire meshing (again, Home Depot for about $9) that I bent into a wave design and strung up from the tent frame (twine attached to the sides helped stabilize it as well). Then, I just hung my sample prints hodge-podge style all over it. It sort-of reminded me of a fish net or something and was far better than having folks flip through a portfolio for samples (this way, they could also see the print quality up-close).And that's it! My tent was pitched on a hill, which meant I had to get creative with how everything was laid out, but it worked out really well. And the weather was beautiful...perhaps a little too much so because I got fried without the sunscreen.

I think one would want to pray to Saint Slug for a slug-free garden. Perhaps you should light a candle in his honor, set aside some lettuce, and if he feels benevolent, he shall call away his brothers and sisters.
Saint Squid however.... I suppose we could get all obvious-like and say he's the patron saint of fertility. But lets not. He may get a bit embarrassed (I mean, look at those big, innocent eyes of his).
Isn't it neat how something so small can look so grand when framed up nicely? Those double mats do wonders.
These ones are done in my sketching style (ink lines and a wash of acrylic paint). I'm hoping to get some elaborately painted ones done today as well. *So* addicting. I've always enjoyed painting small (and these are actually a smidgen bigger than my mini tag paintings) but I really love the whole collecting aspect that goes with these trading cards. It's really neat. I've never been much into collecting baseball cards or anything, but this...yeah. Collecting small original art cards is definitely right up my alley.
