Nature Portals

Well, Spring has sprung in these parts but I'm heading back into Winter tomorrow. I'll be flying out to Chicago for the weekend to show my support for a very dear little brother of mine, who just graduated from navy boot camp. So, away with the skirts and up with the thermals and wool socks!

My shop will remain open, but any purchases between now and the 21st will be shipped upon my return.

There are two places that I'm really really hoping to see in Chicago, and they are (of course) the Field Museum and the Shedd Aquarium. I can't wait! Last month, I tripped around the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma, WA and spent a probably unhealthy amount of time staring at fish and anemones. I don't think I ever even made it to the elephants.
Oh, and the meerkats too, of course. Good thing there was a thick wall of glass between us or else he would have mysteriously made his way home with me. This sly fellow is up to something, me thinks...

Though it's been slow going, I'm currently working out the details on a few paintings. I've also been spending a lot of time sketching and doodling away in my current sketchbook.
...My favorite Cousteau quote.
When I return, I'll be putting a handful of paintings in the shop from my most recent show at Bluebottle Gallery. And...perhaps a giveaway of one of the paintings? We shall see! Have a very delightful week, everyone! I'll see you soon!

the museum and aquarium sound amazing! congrats to your little bro! I love your new sketches. I have that sketchbook (handbook, right?). How do you like it? I have yet to try it. I can see that it takes well to paint, the red paint looks smashing.

Hi Sarah! It is the "handbook" sketchbook. I love it! The size is great (easy to slip into my everyday bag) and the paper is creamy smooth, but with enough tooth that the pencil doesn't smear all over the place. And the paper is also thick enough for paint washes (buckles a tad, but I don't mind that as long as I can't see the paint show through the opposite page). I highly recommend! :)

My favorite Cousteau quote is..."No sooner does man discover intelligence than he tries to involve it in his own stupidity."
It is so terrible that you are going to be in Chicago soon! And I say that because we have been wanting to go to the Shedd for awhile now and we are just a quick stones throw away so it would have been cool to meet you there! Except...we will be in Seattle for the next two weeks! Talk about bad timing. Have a lovely time dear! Enjoy the snowy and windy midwest! oh...i guess we are considered the great lakes region here. whatever

Karlyn: Oh my gosh!! It would have been *so* amazingly awesome to go to that aquarium with you. Next time. :) Will you be meeting up with Rachel while in Seattle? It would be fun if we could all wrangle a date together.

I must admit, a Victorian meerkat sounds pretty hilarious (and by hilarious, I mean amazing). :)
